What University do you attend? just out of interest. And I know what you mean. At one point I had dreads. Still have them I guess but they are shorter now. Certain hair styles carry certain misconceptions. I was wondering if I would have to cut my hair when I want to do med school interviews.

JK. I deal with this on movie sets. Of course those like Rudy Giuliani who are talentless, unimaginative, and downright stuck in the 20th Century suffer from low self-esteem. To they feel superior when they put others down for things outside of their control. Namely how they are born beautiful. Seriously, Look at RUDY. He looks like he's in his death throws. Take yourself seriously. Openly mock and ridicule suck people.Then treat them like the uglies that they are. You are fine, they are busted.

My plans are to grow my hair naturally until I decide to go bald. I was thinking how i would be viewed in the professional world once I graduate. I am a Microbiology Major with aspirations to work for the CDC's outbreak labs. Not only is the CDC professional, but it is also a government job. Sadly, I think that my hair would hurt my chances, but I am not willing to cut my hair just to give in to how others think I should look. is this wrong or am I seeing the whole picture? I need help ...lol

Interesting that I find this video right when I begin my "natural hair journey". All through high school I was the experimental gay kid. I have had every processed hair style, color, and cut that I could pull off. Finally, I cut it all off. [Oh yeah the reason that I did all of that with my hair is because I was in cosmetology school simultaneously] Now I'm growing my in its natural curly state. Florida has high humidity all the damn time. So, every time I'd flat iron my hair it would poof back up the second I walked out the door. So I just decided to wear it natural. For the most part, my co-workers seemed to like it. But I didn't wear my hair like that for a long time because as you said, I didn't want them to think that I didn't take care of my hair or that I was dirty. If they're going to cover the costs for the upkeep of my hair, then that's when they can tell me how to wear it.

IN MY OPINION. Most upper class white people do not UNDERSTAND different textured hair. It has been made out that having any other style other then the typical "white" textured hair isn't as good. With that being said they assume that when having "Curly" or Different hair.. because it isn't "white textured" they must have spent no time in doing their hair making it "dirty.'
