David Horowitz at UT Austin Part 6 - Q&A

David Horowitz is a demagogue who routinely targets the "liberal" academy. He has published several books profiling liberal and left-wing professors, and is a advocate of "academic freedom" legislation that, if passed, would stifle critical thought in the classroom. While it's tempting to dismiss Horowitz as an ideologue who will just go away if we ignore him, he has gained significant traction in media and legislatures, and has helped create a political climate in which respected scholars like Norman Finkelstein are denied tenure for their provocative work. He wants to marginalize and effectively do away with feminist, gender studies, critical race, and a host of other important areas of study.

I watched the other part of this video, and I was appaled by the so-called "left" memebers of the audience. What issues are you organized around, if any? Or is this simply sectarian posturing? Do you want anyone to take your group seriously, or are you just doing it for the sport of it...doing it for style's sake. I mean honestly. Horowitz is an ignorable stalinist-style figure and the fact that you can't engage (and easily discredit) him with civil discourse raises serious questions.

They disregard and protest the man for speaking against there being s disproportionate number of left leaning people in teaching position's. Having been a student for a large portion of my life, I can agree that this is true. It's even more so annoying when teacher's feel the need to take time out of class, which I paid for to tell me how I must be active in politic's. However when I have voiced my opinion on such issues I am demonized....

Wow, this is an embarrassment and a shame. "Don't come back," "Don't come back." These students would never treat an Islamic terrorist who comes to their campus that way, but they sure will treat Mr. Horowitz like a Nazi. It is a sad state of affairs. If any of them were his intellectual equal, they would simply debate him. None do, though. They just wait for their turn to yell at him. Sad.
