All clips used in this video are under FAIR USE under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act for educational purposes and for criticism.

In this video, I critique the coverage of the racist comments made by Senator Harry Reid of Nevada regarding President Obama, first from the perspective of Lee Doren of howtheworldworks, then from the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC last night. I believe the comments have been overblown thanks to republicans and coverage, but that's for you to decide.

In the beginning of this video, I show a Mark McGwire interview picture under FAIR USE that you could see here:

I then show a clip of Lee Doren of the howtheworldworks in a video called, "Harry Reid is a Racist?" under FAIR USE that you could see here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60Q-zc5sQlE&channel=howtheworldworks
His YouTube Channel can be found at:

Finally, I show clips of "The Rachel Maddow Show" last night, January 11, 2010 on MSNBC under FAIR USE. The clips were part of a segment regarding Senator Harry Reid and his comments.

  • @yellowkrux good, we agree then, let's also agree that contrary to this, the standard should be that we only call people racist who've said actual obvious racist things, and no one else and...

that you're allowed to urinate publicly on racebaiters who try to stir up racial strife for their own ends with phony racism charges. A common-sense policy.

  • Right, I'm sure for the past 30 years you've been called racist for disagreeing with other people on taxes. & I'm absolutely sure that your get called a racist for wanting tax cuts & disagreeing with democrats.

  • @yellowkrux most leftists all the time, you have to vote Democrat or be called racist, that's the leftist standard of the last 30 years, since the taint of their own racist past wore off,

There does not have to be any proof that someone is racist, just being for tax cuts or disagreeing with Democrats is proof enough.

  • @RuflessRecords

Who has been called racist for disagreeing with liberals on taxes? Are you referring to the teabaggers, whom are protesting their taxes going up even though their taxes have been decreased?

  • gotta love these hypocritical imbeciles who constantly, and unfairly call people who don't agree with them on taxes racists, who jump all over any indirectly, maybe possibly offensive statement as proof how much rightwingers hate minorities...now suddenly getting understanding when one of their own says something much worse.

There is absolutely no doubt, none whatsoever, what the liberal response, including from bubbamick, would be if Pres Bush or Trent Lott had said this.

  • ...make himself stand out and get people's attention. People are more interested in the negative stories than covering public policy in depth because it is boring. When we watch television or online video most people have an expectation to be entertained or have their views reconfirmed.

Shock jocks and commentators currently rule because they get to express their outrage and get their audience outraged at the behavior of others and their accusations and tone demand attention.

  • Yeah the story is overblown. However it is unfortunate that the 24 hour news cycle has decided in the race for ratings to focus on molehills instead of covering stories.

It is important to know what was said and more important to know the context of the conversation and the character of the person before making wild accusations to brand people with scarlet letters.

However it is important to recognize that Lee Doren is a shock jock and only makes these claims to...

    CONT.

  • Ok that is great and all, but now picture if a Republican had said the same thing? The reaction would have been completely different. Al Sharpton also would have demanded that his ass be tossed out if the same exact words were uttered.

  • I read the comments he made on another site somewhere or other. It didn't seem racists at all. He was stating facts. If Obama had spoken in a black dialect I have no doubt he would have had a MUCH tougher time getting elected. If a gay man ran the gay man would not have been elected. If a Muslim ran the Muslim would not have been elected. Stating these things does not make one a racist. They are simply observations.

  • Reid's comment does not make him a racist, but it does expose a glaring double standard among both parties. Also, Maddow is, as usual, being disingenuous when she said Newt Gingrich "survived" those comments as he did not hold a public office at the time. She also provided an example of the double standard among the Dems, when she showed Biden and his comments. And "fact-checking" Pat Buchanan's hypothetical question about the track team is laughable and her editing of that conversation is silly
