Teenage Mental Patient - Leah Harris

Leah Harris was orphaned after both parents were diagnosed with schizophrenia and died from medication toxicity. Today she is a leading voice in survivor activism, and her powerful spoken word poetry, including "I Was A Teenage Mental Patient," has been featured in publications including Word Warriors: 35 Women Leaders in the Spoken Word Revolution, and DC Poets against the War: An Anthology. Leah is also the co-coordinator of the US Network of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry. @prankstertwins To say that it is pathetic and disgusting and to assume that psychiatrists are always know what they're talking about is alarmingly naive.

I was taken at the age of 12 and kept against my will in an adolescent unit for two and a half years as a result of a row with my father, who had been violent. The psychiatrist believed his side of the story and I wasn't allowed to say anything.

The experience totally ruined my life.

Urgh. I feel her pain, and im sorry for her loss, but the fact that people are revolting against psychiatrists is pathetic and disgusting. They know what they're talking about. There IS actually proof of mental disorders. Scans of your brain and tests for hormonal imbalance.

Hi Leah, have you contacted Citizens Commission For Human Rights? They would be very interested in your song and you would probably be able to get this played on the main Web site Which has thousands of views daily. Whatever they tell you, you are NOT Your brain and there has been no physical tests done AT ALL That proves chemical imbalances. Take a look at CCHR.ORG take care, X Helen
