  • I know someone might have mentioned it already but I was wondering if you are running GFO or pellets. Also what salt do you use and how often do you do water changes?

  • @dasadler123 I do not run GFO actually. I was used it before but with VSV method it's safer to do without. When your bacteria population is established properely, the level of Po4/No3 will drop slowly in the same proportions. If you run GFO with VSV, the Po4 can drop very very quickly and if you don't take care you go to crash your tank.

  • You are correct with the problems with them getting clogged but that only happens when you use the least rated pump that they recommend..I made the same mistake and used a maxi jet 1200 and it was constantly getting clogged so I went with the mag drive and now the problem is solved..I will say that when mine was getting clogged and not tumbling I had cyano like crazy but since I corrected my flow it has gone away,Thanks again and I look forward to your videos, also they dropped my Phoshates.to 0

Be carfull with 0 Po4, it's not recommanded. Corals and other animals need it so it's better keep around 0.02 of Po4 to avoid RTN or bleachings. I also found that my corals have better colors when I keep Po4 between 0.1 and 0.03 than when I have had 0.

  • your set up is amazing great job

Yes the biopellets do the same thing that VSV, feeding bacteria but it's less easy to control the amount of food. I read too that the user of biopellets have problems with their reactor because it cloggs regularly, it's difficult to find the good water flow, enough is not good enough and also ! Some user are facing problems of cyanobacteria too with biopellets.

With VSV I can adjust the real amount of carbon that my tank needs depending of the feeding.

  • Would Biopellets do the same job as VSV ? I have been reading alot on VSV and my thoughts were since your basically providing a food source for the bacteria by VSV dosing that a Biopellet reactor should also work in the same manner...am I correct ? I have upgraded to 2 250 watt 14000K CoralVue Halides..added the Biopellet Reactor and also still running my Refugium and I recently purchashed a couple SPS corals since I have had mostly softies and LPS for the past year ..also I am using B-Ionics

my setup is all that the easest way, good mixing water, big skimmer (you can see the vid in my broadcast list), suffiscient lighting, regular water change about 10% every 15 days and VSV for controling DOC.
