Knock Down or Stopping Power

The terms "knock down power" or "stopping power" are thrown around the gun industry with frightening frequency, especially since there really is no such thing when it comes to handgun cartridges.

A human aggressor is stopped not by the "magic" bullet so much as by the psychological effects of being hit with a bullet and/or where that bullet hits and how much damage it does.

Yes, larger bullets cause more damage and can achieve stopping effects more quickly than smaller calibers but there is no guarantee and certainly no "magic bullet" that will stop an aggressor no matter the distance or the general shot placement.

There is also no hard evidence to suggest that, within the service calibers, there is a "superior" caliber when hollow points are utilized.
