Egon Petri (23 March 1881 -- 27 May 1962). He was an influential figure among many pianists of the middle 20th century. Earl Wild, Ozan Marsh and John Ogdon were among his international students. A big man, Petri had a superb technique and a powerful sonority, and was a superlative exponent of the larger works of Beethoven, Liszt and Brahms. He was also a proponent of new music. Petri died in 1962 in Berkeley, California.

Petri is surely among the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. Full of fire, manly energy and passion. Artist both austere and passionate. (In this old LP had almost 80 years).
