Here is my video tutorial on converting the J-Power 50mm EDF F-18 using the stock motor. See my other F-18 video for flying characteristics after the modification.

  • Very cool!! The only issue I have is with the extended wires on the motor. I would have just added to the battery side but hey each to their own... Great video! Thanx for posting!

  • @gooniac33 I was planning to do that but the receiver plug for throttle would also need to be extended or it will not make it to the receiver. Pick your battles but extending the motor leads was the easiest and in relative terms is only a few inches of wire.

  • @PylonFlyer There is no right or wrong way to do this....and your way works which is all that matters! Good job! Now I need to get started on mine!

  • @gooniac33 looking forward to seeing a few more of these. I think a Don's motor is in order here! :)

  • Theres no extra amp draw issues from putting a big prop on it instead of an edf? nice conversion!

  • @SvenOkonomi You will want to run a small prop roughly 4X3 to keep amp draw down. The prop here is a CAM 4.7X4.7 and it was drawing too much current (30+amps). I trimmed it down and de-pitched the prop (not something you can do without proper knowledge, tools, and gauges). I will be trying other props soon and report back.

  • @PylonFlyer Cool, ill wait for more tests. I have this plane and it flies great on a 1300 pack, but it lacks the "fud" a jet plane should have. It just hums along not stunningly fast.

Making it a pusher would certainly help, and if its as invisible as this, I totally dont mind doing it.
