Video clips from a live dance performance by Karttunen Kollektiv.
Keiju is a dance work for all ages disguised as a fairytale. Keiju (a Finnish word meaning a fairy) is an ambiguous character who has been catapulted into a timeless no mans land between the world of flowers and everyday reality without being able to hold on to either. The work attempts to strike a balance between ambitious, serious dance expression and lovable nonsense.
Karttunens choreography and dance portray the fairy as a character, whereas Kimmo Karjunens world of light, sound and video imagery illustrates its past and subconscious. Leena Joutsenlahtis music embraces the fairys destiny.

It is incredibly beautiful. I videod it when it was performed at The Place in London, and it brought back strong memories of fairy books I'd loved as a child that I'd forgotten until then. I love the blend of the innocent / light and the erotic / dark that fairy tales always evoke for me.
