Thanks, I'm going to make a pair this weekend. I just completed Canada's West Coast Trail a couple weeks ago and snapped my new Black Diamond Pole, not really the poles fault but at the price and being their first trip out it hurt a little knowing how much they cost me. After lugging everything I did over such a tough trail I am now committed to dropping any weight I can, including the poles.

Great video, where does one get their hands on bamboo?

@normbld I got it at a garden shop. Avoid the green painted stuff, though. The kind with the natural sheen seems more durable. Plus, it's easier to find your pole when you drop it in the (green) grass!

I'd love to have your "pile of junk" trekking poles, if you still have them and don't want them.

@FAQUAD2010 I gave them to a buddy who's still into heavyweight hiking. Go figure....

thats a good idea but i definatley like the spikes on trekking poles. nubs are kinda useless going up steep land or on ice.

@tebo442 You're right about on ice but the rubber nubs seem to work for me..even on steep rocky ground.
