-Part 1-
Charles Colson
April 21, 1971

White House Telephone
President Richard Nixon talks with aide Chuck Colson about the reaction of the "hard hats" (construction union members) to his welfare stance. They also discuss a Vietnam War veterans protest ("God, it's an awful looking group"), an article about Edmund Muskie and Trotskyites, and the Supreme Court and busing. Toward the end of the conversation Nixon learns that Ted Kennedy and other important Democratic senators missed an important vote. He wants Colson to "have a little fun with them" about this.

@mrblujet Load of neo-liberal bullshit. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are forced into poverty BY neo-liberal policies, and the neo-liberal answer is that these people are lazy freeloaders who shouldn't get any help? They've been sacked, kicked out of their homes and placed in this position by YOUR beloved policies. They least you can do is help them get back on their feet. Neo-liberalism is utterly synonymous with hypocrisy.

They are correct on the 'welfare loafers.' Unfortunately, that problem has now been exasperated today; everybody expects a hand-out from the government whether it be housing, health care, education, food stamps, etc.
We have too many free loaders in this country.
