Actually the first cars with airbags were 1974 full size Buicks, Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs where they were optional extras. However before they were intended to replace seat belts which obviously did not work out. The S-Class used a system where the airbag complements the seat belts

While some features seem cool (that radar stuff I remember that LONG ago, like 10 to 15+). But most those features are not needed, and if they fail it could be very bad (especially when the user comes to rely on). I mean that electronic brakes has scared me ever since I heard of it. Face it we re become to wrapped up in technology to realize what's going on.

I think all of these Luxury cars have their own special characters and good points.
LEXUS LS= wonderfully smooth engine and unbeatable refinement and build quality.
Mercedes S CLASS= excellent heritage, material quality and engine range.
AUDI A8= Understated looks, Good build quality.
BMW 7 Series= excellent dynamics, and some unique features.
JAG XJ=good heritage, nice wood.
