Here is one of the sweetest arrangements that Eddie Sauter wrote for the Red Norvo Orchestra, Irving Berlin's sentimental tune "Remember." This March 1937 recording features trumpeter Stu Pletcher, tenor sax man Herbie Haymer, and clarinetist Hank D'Amico. Gorgeous big band playing at its finest.

The record is played on my Sparton radio-phono console unit, built around the 8-57 AM-FM radio chassis with phono preamp input. The unit includes a "slicer" record changer and the tonearm is equipped with an Astatic ceramic phono cartridge that uses a standard size sapphire-tip needle.

For this video, I mic'd the speaker at close proximity, rather than gathering the sound from further back in the room.

  • I grew up with this wonderful music and I'm so happy that I am able to also share this REAL music with my young children. My Father was (is) Terry Allen) vocalist for Red Norvo orchestra. He will be 89 yrs old this July and he can still sing!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful music!!

  • @Puccinotti That's incredible! I'm 16 and I really enjoy listening to the older era Jazz Music. Especially 30's. It's quite relaxing. I like the history behind it. It really goes back to where the music industry got its roots. Great to see you on here!

  • Oh boy that was SO amazing to hear again - made my heart dance ♪ ♫ ♥ ❤ ❥ ❦ ❧ ♩ ♬

  • OMG so good

  • @patoman881

I thank you so much for letting me know this. Although he sang with a few other bands, I prefer the songs he sang while with Red Norvo. I am the mom of two young girls and I still continue to play the music of the big band era for my children. I want them to appreciate REAL music and what true talent was about. Not computer generated studio nonsence. Real musicians and real talent.

  • @Puccinotti I have your father singing "Your a Sweet Little Headache" with Red Norvo. Flipside is "I Have Eyes" I think it's wonderful that he shared his music with you and your family:-)

  • the drummer on this is maurice purtill who later joined glenn millers band!!

  • This is great. Another upload of this Red Norvo recording is with a great slide show of photos of a young Judy Garland. entitled: "Remember: The Young Judy Garland".

That version sounds like it possibly from a CD because the fidelity is full.
