The Mid Essex Model Railway Club's 32nd exhibition held at Shenfield High School, Brentwood Essex. 19th Sept 2009.

32. Willesden Junction in 9mm gauge by Pete Wilson.
A model evocation of War Department Light Railways operated by British & Commonwealth Armed Forces during the Great War (1914 - 18).
Situated 9km west of Ypres (Ieper) in Belgian Flanders the name is a prime example of a British soldier's sense of humour.
Willesden Junction (UK) was a large railway depot on the LMS in North London, & as such so was this location in Belgium hence the name.
WW1 light railways were mainly 60cm gauge, built to service the needs of frontline troops by supplying ammunition, foodstuffs for men & horses, water, materials for fortifications & to transport injured men to the rear of the battlefield.
The layout is a large triangular yard, with trains from the rear hauled by steam locomotives.
These being replaced by less visible petrol tractors for onward movement in smaller two or three wagon consists.

33. Dagworth in OO gauge by Andi Dell.
Dagworth is based on Great Eastern Main Line practice in 1985.
Operation is based on Ipswich in the period with class 86 Electric hauled trains arriving from London & changing loco's for class 47 diesels for the journey to Norwich.
A wide variety of freight trains & cross country & local passenger services are also portrayed.
The layout features overhead electrifications & computer controlled colour light signalling.
The layout shows what you can achieve with DCC, in that some operators control the signalling whilst the train drivers must adhere to the signalling - just like the real thing.
With DCC you can also control other aspects, such as the raising & lowering of pantographs.

  • Great video of Dagworth. Love the 309's coupled together. Im a great fan of Andi's work on Dagworth and his units!

  • @amsiesmodels Thanks!

  • great scenery. it sounds daft this, but just after the picture of the red bus at the

beginning, it looks like a girl with prosthetic limbs is doing the splits in a blue

leotard! spot on modeling. the scenic colours and catenery are spot on.

how did you make the catenery- it's something i'd really like to do- its stunning.

have about 15 class 86s and 87s, my favourite engines and i'd love to

have the catenery modeling you've done. all the best.

  • @garethpauljones50 I just realised 56076 down below is the "Dagworth" builder, Andi, who you should contact for advice.

  • @garethpauljones50 The girl is an optical illusion which I didn't notice before but is just the men standing behind controlling the layout.

You would need to contact the builders of "Dagworth" for how it was done, I think a lot of these sort of layouts appear in "Railway Modeller" & the like & would reveal the tricks of the trade.

  • @56076 I will look out for it!

  • @TimBrown59

Hopefully Ravens will get there when it's finished

  • @Whizzer1 Does more travelling than a real train, eh?
