Our garden has not really be cared for for at least a few years. So work has begun clearing the main lawn area, where the chickens will live and making vegetable patches around the edge.
It has been a hassle getting the garden waste take away. Our council tax covers a garden waste disposal service which we have called but my experiences so far with Lambeth council have not been good so we will see how it goes.

  • Should have composted materials to add rich organic fertilizer for your gardens. Should also have a worm composter to decompse food wastes.

  • @dionysusstar Yeah were are doing that but it takes a long time. I would have to wait several years to make that much compost from our own food waste.

  • Thanks Old Bean. Are you sure that was Rosemary? It does look similar but I was sure it was Lavender. To be honest even if it was Rosemary I think we would have got rid of it. It was where we want to put grass for the chickens. We kind of want to start from scratch. I plan to plant more Rosemary soon too.

  • @OrkTheVengeful Lavender tea is good too.

  • actually it is true that a hen will take the roll of a rooster. she will even start laying. They dont get that same crow going on but it is still an interesting fact :)

  • The story you heard about a female chicken taking on the role of the male and making noise is 100% false. They don't do that. LOL

  • u can eat lavender! :D ppl just rarely do anymore, most don't kno u can eat it, i used to think u cudnt...haven't tried it in a recipe yet tho...;)

  • lets see you spent money on a phecall over a crappy little bag of garden waste and this is green ??

your meant to leave the garden waste to decompose? it then becomes compost

anyway i noticed my mails been a bit negative sorry about that, because i do like what you guys are doing

i dig it (dont groan so) :)

anyways cant wait see the chuchs

  • I got a chuckle out of the part of the female assuming the males role and making a lot of noise haha.

  • If it was rosemary you would definitely smell it. The way you were smelling it I think you could tell the difference. Rosemary leaves are alot stronger smelling than lavender.

  • Looks like lavender to me. I recognised the way it goes woody in the middle. Plus it had purply bits in it.
