So I came across your video RonnieBoy . Did the same thing u showed on your video. When I cranked the engine once more it cranked right onn.. Running smooth now. the problem was that i was lining up the wrong marks on the bottom gear. So, Thank You very much for the video . It helped me alot///
I did the timing belt & water pump job on my 1999 Toyota Camry. I was having problems when I put back the timing belt. I would start the engine but it was shakey & it was making a small sound inside the engine. It didn't want to speed up it's revolutions as I gave it a bit of gas.
Marking the old timing belt to the cogs works good for an interval change on a good running car. If it is running bad, then you are correct, the old belt should not be used as a reference. If the belt has jumped a tooth, it will be running like crap or not at all. Best to move the old belt back to position and check for bent valves before going any further. Rebuilding a head sometimes causes blow by in worn cylinders, often a good used motor works better on a high mileage car.
