Abilene Cooper Head Football Coach Mike Spradlin congratulates his team following a 45-28 win over defending 5A D-II State Champions, and crosstown rivals, Abilene High, Friday, October 29, 2010. This is the first time the Cougars have beat the Eagles in over half a decade.
A sellout crowd of 17,000+ packed Abilene's Shotwell Stadium to watch the matchup between the only two undeafeted teams in District 3-5A. Abilene High led 28-24 at halftime, but Cooper dominated the second half, scoring 21 unanswered points. As a result, the Coogs, who are now 9-0 for the season and 4-0 in district play, have secured at least a share of the district championship.
While both Abilene teams are assured berths in the 5A Division II playoffs, Cooper can wrap up a perfect season, and the outright district title, with a win next Friday over a very good Midland High team.
This is the raw MP4 file recorded by my JVC ProHD GY-HM700 professional HD camcorder, set to 720/30p mode at 35Mbps data rate. The file was recorded directly onto a 16GB class 6 SDHC solid state memory card, and uploaded here. All of the audio is from the camera's shotgun "nat sound" mic connected to the camera's channel 2 (right) XLR input, which is why all of the sound is coming from the right speaker.
