Apologies to you guys, because the NPR stream is no longer up, but you can give a listen to the opening track, which was posted by Thou's label at this link: http://bit.ly/9uHMKu

MackasaurFM's review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS6399FO-mc

On Thou's third album, the band brings their sludge sound to a new extreme, and brings some extra instrumentation into the fold, too. Though there are some nice spots of violin, acoustic guitar, and even horns, blaring guitar chugs are still what makes this album what it is. I would have preferred more variation, but the slow and intense pace of Summit is something to behold. Tun this thing up and destroy a city.

If you've heard it, what did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why?

7/10

  • sorry its 3:10

  • 3:12 Frank Zappa

  • you should do a review of Merchandises LP Strange Songs (In The Dark)

  • 7 is fucking ridiculous.... try no rating, cause its that fucking bad ass. Smuck

  • @supershiro34 ah, I see. I don't play an instrument but I like hearing about how people tweak the sound. I'll start listening for this specifically

  • @supershiro34 Some other bands that might be considered metal with better sounding drums are:

Dillinger Escape Plan, Grails, Shora, Tomahawk

  • @supershiro34 Most bands I can think of probably aren't considered "metal" - I don't really bother with metal these days because almost every band I find has horrible drumming, and it drives me up the wall. The band Tool is an example of what drums SHOULD sound like. He uses an open mic technique that really lets the drums breath so you can hear the tonal qualities of the wood. Not just the dampened thwap! of a plastic head.

  • @Bulldog22031 Really? I've never noticed that. what are some modern metal bands that don't do it?

  • gotta go with them baton rouge badasses...Thou FTW
