Ted Kennedy Motorcade
Arlington Cemetery
Arlington, Virginia
29 August 2009
At the beginning, big excitement. After waiting over two hours (and running at least an hour and a half late) plenty of sirens and action. But that was only a warm up. The procession itself would not happen for another 15 minutes or so.
In the meantime, all traffic in either direction was stopped. You could see some people leaving their automobiles and going over to watch.
The motorcade, when it arrived, was huge. Most of the family had the windows rolled down in their limos, and they were waving at people as they passed by. They seemed to be genuinely pleased that so many people had turned out to pay their respects.
Speaking of respect -or lack of- the joggers and bike riders were not to be deprived on their respective moments of entitlement. You can see them riding by with gay abandon as we used to say.
