Episode 4: Never Give up
After sharing their kiss at the end of Episode 3, Elena feels like she is getting her Damon back. Gwen and Ianto ask her why she is so happy and she tells them there is no reason. she might be getting the old Damon back but she doesn't want to get her hopes up. The next morning, she visits Damon and thinks they should takes things slower since his entire memory hasn't returned. Damon simply agrees with a smile. Julian continues his contact with Jim Moriarty without the team's knowledge and is told to get back together with his wife Marti. It is better for Julian to stay within the team so Moriarty knows what they are doing. Marti is still worried about Julian and her father tries to assure her that he will come around and if he doesn't then there isn't much that can be done. However, when Marti receives a call from Julian telling her that he needs her, the Doctor is concerned about the quick turnaround. Marti rushes back to her husband.
Just as Damon thinks he is becoming himself again, his flashbacks come back and remind him that he still isn't the same person that he was and it upsets him. He tries not to care and tells Elena that he doesn't, but it angers her and they argue. Damon begins to think that she is better off without him around. He takes off his ring and goes to the woods, but Elena follows him and convinces him that killing himself won't undo what has been done. She leaves the ring and tells him it is his choice and goes home and waits. Damon returns and she is pleased to see him. When Julian and Marti come over for dinner and the Doctor watches them he feels like there is something wrong, but Rose assures him that it will be fine. Julian does his best to act normal.
Elena is concerned about Damon and assures him that what happened wasn't his fault. They grow closer again, but soon after Damon decides to leave town and see a friend of his who might be able to help him get his memory back. Trusting him, Elena lets him go. Ianto tells Elena that everything will work out and Elena feels safe. That night, Elena meets with Stefan, Damon's brother to hang out, but there is something different about him. He is not the same Stefan that they knew. Damon rushes back but Stefan crashed the car and Elena is put in hospital. However Gwen and Ianto have no idea this happened since they have been out working with the rest of the team. Damon finds Stefan argues with him for putting Elena in so much danger. Stefan doesn't care and tells Damon that it is Damon's problem now to protect Elena. Damon goes to the hospital and finds Elena and takes her home to look after her. The team find their first dead body. With Elena feeling better, Damon takes her home for the night and makes sure she is alright.
Damon goes to see Jack and tells him about what happened with Stefan. Jack, thinking that Stefan is easy to deal with, tells that to Damon, but Damon warns about what Stefan is capable of. That night, Marti had planned to go out to dinner with Julian but she gets a message saying he can't make it. What does Julian have planned instead?
