Chaloner is an 0-4-0 vertical-boiler steam loco built by De Winton in 1877. It's normally based on the Leighton Buzzard Railway but here she is on a visit to the Ffestiniog back in 1987 (not 1986 as shown on the video).

  • Quite a suprise seeing this as I had forgotten this 'test special' had been filmed. However the film is incorrectly titled as it took place on Friday 8th May 1987. Chaloner had spent the winter at Boston Lodge having an overhaul and this was a test run to check that all was OK. Once passenger services for the day were over, we found an empty wagon, borrowed

    some chairs from the mess room and set off.
