The point of this video is to explain, not directly, that I have discovered a new technique for making ocarinas, and the outcome for both times has been shown in this video.

EDIT**** The smaller ocarina is a tenor. I compared the pitches of the tenor black ocarina that I bought from STL's web site and the smaller one I made, and they match closely. So, both ocarinas I made are tenor, but the larger one is tuned 3 pitches lower. The little cat ocarina I made also has the same fundamental pitch, and that's 2 tenors (one four-hole, one five-hole) that I'll be selling on ebay when I fire and glaze all of them!

  • sounds like a native american flute

  • Fired would be the temperature that the clay matures at. This is most accurately done with an electric kiln. Glazing refers to the temperature at which the glaze melts into glass and coats the clay with a glossy finish. An underglaze goes on first, then the actual glaze, and the underglaze is where you get the coloring from.

  • what do u mean by fired and glazed and how do u do it

  • At Michael's, I was able to find both the ceramic and the air-dry clay. The last few ocarinas I made were of air-drying clay, but play it safe with the ceramic if you want them to be less fragile during shipping if you start to sell them after a while. Good luck!
