@Basehad I agree with you there. My mom took a course in high school that taught how to balance a check book, how credit cards work, how to shop for bargains, etc. My high school had no such class. Some people think we are being poorly educated about finance on purpose so the bankers can steal more money. I believe Thailand took a huge loan from the IMF when their economy crashed in 1998, a loan that has to be paid back with interest..

@FarangBalls Okay, sorry for being rude. I just don't think that it's a specific Thai trait. Everywhere in the world, you have poor, uneducated people who make poor financial decisions. Even here in Denmark, the problem is so widespread that we have TV shows about families and young couples that are helplessly indebted because they make terrible financial decisions over and over again. They should teach household economics in school.

@Basehad I didn't say that this was the cause of their entire country being poor. I only meant that the average thai person makes poor financial choices. They could save or invest, but no one from Isan does so. The country has many problems, such as corruption at every level of the government.

@FarangBalls Firstly, I can't believe your analysis of poverty in Thailand revolves around the moronic idea that the Thais are somehow to blame because "they always want the newest mobilie phone". That's the dumbest shit I've heard in a long time. Secondly, I can't belive you've got 5 thumbs up. But then again, that only amounts to 6 idiots, so I guess that's okay.

What is great about this life of ours is something called "FREE WILL", each adult has the power to say yes or say no. There is always alternatives. I salute the men who take Thai wives and the Thai women who know themselves well enough to make up their own minds. You are either a victim or a volunteer and far too many western women cry victim when the truth is many women are just simply volunteers, making a simple choice in their life. Mind your own business, lead with love and do not judge.

@MLamai Sorry if my comment offended you, thats not what I was trying to do. I was just stating what I have seen from my poor and rich thai friends alike. They constantly buy new clothes, mobile phones, and other things they dont need. They don't save much or invest.

I think Thais could be richer but they dont save their money. They spend all their money the moment they get it and also rack up huge debt. Thai culture is to show off your wealth through material objects. They always want the newest mobile phone, even though the one they have is fine, etc. i have witnessed this from poor thais and rich thais alike.

I know the girls are acting like prostitutes. I can't ignore that this situation has existed for a big while.

This has nothing to do with the gov. One thing I can tell is that the gov has never promoted sex industries.
