  • I'm an atheist/agnostic, but I've gotta admit that I couldn't think of anything better to say at that moment than what those guys did. It's perfect, and anybody that can't see the beauty in it is an idiot.

  • @twb176 Thanks for your comments! We may disagree with how the universe began but we both agree with its beauty and how amazing it is. It blows me away that just our galaxy, The MIlky Way, is something like 100 million light years across...and thats just one galaxy....

  • It a shame that Obama is cutting the shuttle and the moon program so he can shell out more handouts to his voters.

  • I couldn't agree more! I remember when we were still allowed to pray in school and they actually read from the Bible over the intercom in the morning. By the way the ACLU was actually formed as an offshoot of the Amercian Communist Party...so we know where they are comming from!

  • I was 10 years old. The last days of the worst year in this nation's history. These three men gave us hope that we could fashion a better future. I will never forget the awesome sight of the entire globe in the camera's eye, and the wishing of a Merry Christmas to all of us on the Good Earth. We need such a benediction today.

  • @hjjsgator That's right. Dammed apt. Never knew how big the Milky Way was. Thanks for the info. The Apollo program had many magic moments. This was but one. I too heard it live, back in Ireland, Christmas 1968. It surprised me. At the time I thought it was brilliant. I'm older now and more cynical about other things. There's not a lot of us left. We will never see the like again.

  • I was 26 and at home in Ireland in our sitting room following the flight live on the Light program. This was a complete surprise. I thought it was great. 5 Major wars later, wouldn't it be nice if we could have some Love and Peace and "Joy to the World" this Christmas time 2011 on "The Good Earth". Another 58 blown up today in Kabul. What's wrong with the Human race?

  • @hjjsgator As much as I love Astronomy and Space travel I think he did the right thing

We are like a trillion dollars in debt, and its a ton of things more important than space travel

  • they should put this on every christmas!!

  • What these missions did for humanity in the 1960's was get their eyes off the earth and up towards heaven and made people think about God. Of that fact, there can be no doubt. I lived it. I was there and 11 years old. It made me think for sure.

  • @hjjsgator The Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light years across. The biggest galaxy found to date is 6 million light years across with an estimated 100 trillion stars, it is at a distance of just over 1 billion light years away from earth. Now theres food for thought.

Wait, what? Children are still allowed to pray in school. What's changed is that public schools, which are a government institution, are not allowed to lead prayer. Doing so is a violation of the first amendment.

Out of curiousity- why do we need a shuttle program? Why do we need a Moon program?
