Bill Maher from his comedy special ...But I'm Not Wrong on the Tea Bag protesters longing for the return of the 1950s in America when they say "they want their country back". As Bill points out those times weren't so great if you were anything besides male and white.

  • @superkarlclements The words "God" and "Creator" in the Declaration refer not to the christian god but to "Nature's God." In any event, the U.S. Constitution, which created the U.S., does not mention any god. It created a secular nation, with separation of church and state (see Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists). You may not care that it's unconstitutional to have the word "God" in our Pledge and on our money, but many people do, including some christians.

  • @graysonTW There wasn't anything rancid about the report you mentioned. Apparently you wanted it to claim that poor black people are lazy, blood suckers though. You're not even trying to hide your racist views. Whether you believe it or not, your enemy isn't poor black people who need food stamps to survive. The wealthy are hurting you far more than the poor ever will. I don't expect you to understand this though since you have issues with those who don't share your skin color...

  • The 1950s were the most awful period in American history. It was an insane dream with a smell of clean house. The commercial where a blonde woman would use the Vacuum with joy. But if you were back, you couldn't vote, you lived in slum. If you were a women, and you looked too masculine, it was lobotomy or electroshock. This period was like the song at the time. Tickling bell, innocent. But under this, it was horrible, insane, inhuman.

It was surely a Brave New World.

  • It's funny he should mention not being able to see Ray Romano hitting his wife on TV. You aren't able because Ray was the one being hit and shoved and called names by his wife. He even said in one episode he was sick of her hitting him all the time and she pushed him into a book case. Actual abuse!

    .

I don't remember women actually getting hit by their husbands on TV for comedic relief.

  • @TheRimDoctor Canada never deregulated its banking industry, so it wasn't directly affected by the gambling that took our economy to its knees. But if your Conservative leaders are looking to America for guidance, they too will deregulate your industries putting Canadians at great risk. Hopefully your voters will be able to stop this before it's enacted in Canada. Reagan started this agenda. 30 yrs of Libertarian/Conservative policies were enacted to intentionally bankrupt us.

  • @TheRimDoctor In the US, the South is the base of the Conservative right. These were the States that seceded from the US over slavery. Even though they don't control the Senate, Conservatives hold enough power to block all legislation & appointments. They're obstructing any effort to rescue our economy. Since many Americans don't pay attention to politics, they have no idea why the economy isn't improving, so they blame the incumbents. The GOP is banking on this ignorance...

  • @NightriderXP1 Jack Layton was NDP leader and was charismatic, hopeful, etc. Our voters are not concerned with the economy (Canada has faired extremely well), what our voters want, and what our youth want is freedom for all and a more European society. We enjoy gloating our free healthcare and more Nature-friendly lives. Remember, The Conservatives have majority of seats, but not majority of voters. They have somewhere around 30% of the vote.

  • @NightriderXP1 I would not say its a rapid lurch to the right, but I would say the right has gone farther right. I say this because the NDP, who are so left it would make Americas head spin, have gotten official opposition with a recent landslide victory. They were typically 3rd or 4th Party (After Bloc Quebecois) but its so unexpected that they beat the allpowerful Liberals by 70 seats because they typically sat with ~30 or so for 50 years. Its thanks to our Youth that we're left

  • @TheRimDoctor The vocal Conservative religious right has no real concern about the economy. They've always fought against people who aren't like them. They would prefer to amend our constitution to strip Americans of their rights. They succeeded in adding our 18th Amendment in 1919 that banned alcohol. They're against religious freedom for non-christians, women's rights, gays, minorities, etc. They would be comfortable with the KKK. This isn't how most Americans think...

  • @TheRimDoctor So what would explain your country's rapid lurch to the right? It's clear to see that the Conservative movement in the US is bound & determined to control all of our media. Once they control the media, they can silence all opposition, which is proving to be extremely successful. Bills in Congress that were recently shelved would have allowed them to shut down any web site that they didn't like. It was a major power grab that has been averted for the time being...

  • @NightriderXP1 But Ezra Levant runs a show no one is stupid enough to watch anyways. What I find the key difference between voters in the US and Canada is that theUS appears to gobble up propaganda (Which is the only stuff that spews North, plus more or less Neutral CNN, so we make what we can of it) but Canadians don't respond to propaganda because we as a country identify it and make fun of whoever created it. We look South and wonder why you're concerned With God Guns & Gays
