Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who stilled the water.
Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who calmed the sea.
Take a look at yourself,
And you can look at others diff'rently,
By puttin' your hand in the hand,
Of the man from Galilee.

Every time I look into the Holy Book,
I wanna tremble (tremble).
Or when I read about the part where,
The carpenter cleared the temple (temple).
For the buyers and the sellers
Were no diff'rent fellas,
Than what I profess to be.
And it causes me shame to know,
We're not the people we should be.

So, put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who stilled the water.
Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who calmed the sea.
Take a look at yourself,
And you can look at others diff'rently,
By puttin' your hand in the hand,
Of the man from a-Galilee.

My mama taught me how to pray,
Before I reached the age of seven.
She said, "They'll come a time when,
There'll probably be room in heaven."
But I'm feelin' kinda guilty 'bout,

But we forget what he said,
Then we figure that he'll still make room.

So, you gotta put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who stilled the water.
Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who calmed the sea.
Take a look at yourself,
And you can look at others diff'rently,
By puttin' your hand in the hand,
Of THE man from a Galilee.

Everybody come along.

Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who stilled the water.
(Who stilled the water.)
Put your hand in the hand,
Of the man who calmed the sea.
[Fade.]
(Who calmed the sea.)
Take a look at yourself,
And you can look...

  • Many go about life thinking that they can go 'bout doing what we want and no matter what they do there will always be room in heaven. We are all sinners, like those buyers and sellers in the temple, and we all need the Savior Jesus Christ. But you cannot be saved by grace and go 'bout as if there will always be room in heaven. This is cheap grace made up by man. Jesus will make room for all who don't reject the Spirit and are saved by His grace through faith in Him alone.

  • @MrCzechers

Why do you ruin such a great song with such a typical comment?

I don't care if the song is religious or not, I'm here because I like the song itself, not because of the meaning, since i'm a non believer.

But getting on a point, Isn't God's 'door' always open? So why so definte about putting it in the devil's hand.

  • FYI- the bass player (Jeff Jones) was the original bass player and singer for Rush. He was replaced by the present bass player Geddy Lee and this song was his reply....

You're totally going off road with this. I was now talking about religion and not such cases in general. Everybody has the right to choose whatever religion he or she wants, atleast it is here. And no religion is better than the other, in my opinion..

  • @KindOfRocka1 Furthermore, just because it "feels right" for your neighbor next door, doesn't mean it is correct. For instance, if you were to walk outside while your neighbor was keying your car and his only response was "it feels right to me," you would most likely not be very happy. In this scenario you might feel justified in killing his grandmother because it "feels" like the right course of action for you to take. Notice that a "right feeling" does not equal "truth."

  • @KindOfRocka1 "there's a truth for every individual, not a truth that's for everybody the same." < This is referred to as subjective truth. The only problem with this assumption is that it claims that the "truth" can be no one specific "truth." In order for this to be an accurate statement, the statement itself must also be declared "not true" and therefore it is what's known as a "self defeating argument."

  • @nswarthout

I think there's a truth for every individual, not a truth that's for everybody the same. For me the truth is in Darwin's theory and not the bible. For others it might be the bible or the koran and for others it might be the Torah. And God didn't allow me to choose, I allowed myself to choose.

  • @KindOfRocka1 Actually Jesus said that He stands at the door and knocks. And whoever opens it and recieves Him, He will come in and dine with them. Your concept of the "open door" is bad theology typically cited by those who want to make excuses for their rebellion against God. Your "unbelief" is made possible by the fact that God has allowed you to either choose Him or turn away from him. Unbelievers, such as yourself, have been confronted with the truth and have rejected it.
