Final touch vs Steffen (SUI) in the pool round of the 2011 European Championships.

Description (Spoiler Alert): Steffen attacks towards Matteo's shoulder, Matteo sweeps up the blade in 6 and attempts a riposte to Sterffen's back. The riposte to the back fails, but Tagliariol manages to maintain balance and stay in the touch. He then neatly finds Steffen's blade with a good 4 parry and finish the touch.

  • C'est ça la touche de l'année ? ... =/

    J'en doute fort ..

  • @Shakbard

    A) hyperbole

    B) show me another.

  • Where did it come from - it was nicked from my video on VIMEO: video 26676311 - approx 13.40 onward. It's a redouble in the low line.

  • @EastbourneEscrime . quite right. I hope you're not annoyed. I did credit you as the source in the clip description. I really liked that particular sequence and felt that it truly highlighted the training, strength and control that are required to succeed at the highest levels of the sport. Thanks for filming and sharing. Cheers!

  • holy shit!

  • this is what it looked like to me. Tagliorol makes a counter six flick high and misses or hits flat, and then he makes what's called a croise in the line of four taking the swiss fencer's blade down very low and hitting the flank under the arm.

  • for the european championship, i was expecting to see wireless.

  • Notice how the left guy goes in for a head-shot. He misses and guy on the right gets under his blade for a stab at his gut.

  • @Venturi01 There are three types of swords used for fencing. The foil, saber and epee. While saber is a piercing or slashing weapon, the epee and foil are piercing only. You need the hit the opponent with the tip of your blade. What you're seeing here is epee. The difference is that in foil, the only legal target is the torso, while every part of your body is legal in epee. That's why the guy on the right is scrambling to get out of the way. Not only does he evade, but counters for the point.

  • Im thinking about taking up fencing. Could someone explain what happened in the clip. Looks like the man on the right got tangled up in his opponents weapon and that left him open.
