Vanessa had the chance to become a Dame in 1999, but she declined it since she did not want it to interfere with her title as UNICEF Ambassador... she wants to represent the whole world and not just Britain.

How much I admire her ! I met her briefly after watching " The Year of Magical Thinking " at the National this summer. I admire her even more for being so talented and yet, so humble. To fascinate people with an hour thirty monologue, in a drama, with very little help from stage decoration was certainly a challenge. But she did it brilliantly...in a way only her could have done.

Can you believe that Redgrave and Julie Christie are still NOT YET knighted? And yet, they could both be nominated for another Oscar this year? obscurenote, I agree: I wish I could send a day with Vanessa so that I can ask her everything from why it's hard for her to find eternal love to the reason why her famous father gave his blessing to become a political activist (which I want to become thanks to her).
