@BaptistBoi...correct. I was raised COGIC and trust me, I don't miss it. And for the record, Peter spoke ONLY Greek. There is absolutely nothing in scriptola that says otherwise about any of the mess that is now being spoken, without interpretation, in these Pentecostal fellowships; but this isn't Bible study, so I'm easing on.
@BaptistBoi Yeah man - that is what kept the rift in between them. But I know where I come from...COGIC's came out of Baptist...Bishop Mason (COGIC Founder, Pioneer in Pentecostalism) was a Baptist Boy himself at one time. My Grandfather was a Baptist Pastor...I am very familiar with those Baptist Boys lol.
@medene I would like to add however, that you are correct to a certain degree. The biggest disagreement was on Spiritual Gifts and still is in some cases. Most Baptist churches did not accept or fully understand some of the Gifts of the Spirit with "speaking in tongues" being the main one. However, 1 Corinthians 12 & 14 explain why...(Particularly 12:1-11 & 14:26-33).
@medene LOL...OK man!! I've been born & raised n the Baptist Church & have studied also...but I guess that is obsolete...LOL!!! Yes...there are some & always have been Baptist Churches (& other denoms) who are more conservative n their style of worship. I've also been to some COGIC/Pentecostal churches who like I said earlier "didn't have people bouncing off the walls" either!!! But I'm glad that you didn't fall off the watermelon wagon & "know your stuff"...LOL!!! Stick a fork in me...I'm done!
@BaptistBoi I am not believe what I was told - HISTORY AND TRADITIONAL BAPTIST DOCTRINE CONFIRMS MY POINT! I have studied and experienced church all my life...I am not some looney toon that fell off the watermelon wagon yesterday, when it come to church I know my stuff. Baptist churches did not began to adopt a Pentecostal/ Charismatic form of worship until the mid - late 1970's...before that Baptist people did not except the Pentecostal Movement or style of worship. HISTORY/ NOT OPINION!
@medene I wasn't being literal w/the statement about sending people 2 hell!! I meant that they're persons who wear their denom like a badge as if that in itself makes one holy!!! I totally agree w/this statement u made here & I love to fellowship w/people from all different Christian denoms! My prob was when u said that this wasn't the "normal" style of worship for a Baptist Church! We have always praised God & not just in recent years! Don't believe the stereotype or what u may have been told!!
@BaptistBoi How do you know people are going to Hell? Rom. 10:6/7 Brotha, no one is talking about division here. I am talking expressions of faith. There is nothing WRONG with Denominations (Christian Fellowships) as long as we can fellowship under the unity of Christ - if we can't then there is a problem. Everyone experiences God differently. Because of those differences we have formed denominations based on those beliefs...but, no one goes to Hell because of their personal convictions.
@medene I know I come off a lil strong smtimes whn it comes 2 my denomination b/c I am tired of people putting up denominational walls!! More people are going to hell behind denoms than we'll ever know! We're all Christians 1st & denoms are man made! Holiness is not a denom but a way of life! I find it hard to believe that people can be so convinced of smthing that they've been told & I'm speaking from experience! My church & the churches we fellowship with (this 1 included) hav NEVER been dry!!
