Designed as a learning tool by noted drummer, percussionist, clinician and author, Sam Ruttenberg, the versatile HingeStix® drumsticks enable drummers to:

Feel the rebound for smoother playing without fatigue.
Develop finger technique for faster playing without fatigue.
Understand the fulcrum (balance points) on the stick for more control.
Feel the whipping motion of the Moeller technique.
Making the transition from traditional to matched grip

HingeStix® simulates a loose grip, so they are also useful in countering the effects of sore muscles which are a result of holding drum sticks too tightly over a long period of time.

  • Thanks for you comment! If you go to my YouTube channel and veiw the videos on Master Studies, Table of Time, Sycopation, and 6/8 Arfo Cuban excercise you'll see I am playing traditional grip. I will be be posting more soon. Right now I'm playing at Lincoln Center in NY and last week I played for the troops in Afghanistan via NBC on Christmas Eve.

  • Hey Mr. Ruttenburg,

I'm wondering if you can use your Hinge Stixs to practice traditional grip, and would also love to see you do a video on traditional grip in general. Thanks so much for your very educational channel! Best
