A part of the horse encyclopedia by Alexander Nevzorov. Sorry for the bad subs, I will try to fix them. But for now, this is what it says:
Alexander: ´But all those talks that the horse´s mouth gets used to the pain caused by the bit is complete rubbish. Come to think of it. What is it -- "to get used to pain"? It implies the adaptation of tissues to the outside interference which is commonly called "callus". But callus cannot appear on mucous membranes - this is a law of physiology, and the mouth is one big mucous membrane, so adaptation is completely excluded. It is worth considering the consequences of the equestrian sport though they are carefully concealed.´
it cause pain ... it'S not okay to do that ... but it is rare

Using bits isn't animal abuse. Causing the animal pain in any way is animal abuse. That's all I have to say.
