Here is my 1978 GS1000. It has had a 3 year restoration. Work includes new petrol tank from Slingers Suzuki, Maxton re-worked forks with R6 internals, Maxton shocks, Brand New Dresda swingarm from Roff's motors Sweden, Wiseco big bore, CR Kehins, gas flowed head all by John Sims of Silverstone Superbikes, rear sets, AP lockeed racing calipers and master cylinder, mounting plates and oil cooler again by John Sims. Brief was to keep the bike looking as stock as possible and all parts were to be of the era as the bike is for a pre 1978 Hill climb held in Jersey, Channel Islands. Bike has also had new electonic ignition, regulator and rectifier, Avon race tyres, pingel fuel tap, race clutch, braided lines, etc etc. Lovely to ride and to own.

  • They are the standard UK bars. Bike is a bit different now and has a total loss ignition, close ratio gear box and straight cut primary gear

  • Yes indeed the tank is not the original. It was a Brand new one from Holland that I managed to find. The old one had a liquid liner put in it and it had disintegrated. The new tank does not have the lines down the side but as this bike is for classic racing and hill climbs, I am not bothered. Still have the original tank though.

  • Great looking bike! I am starting on my 78, where did you get those yoshi pipes?

  • Hi Tex the pipe is a Marvin with a yoshi sticker from John Sims at Silverstonesuperbikes

  • nice bike dude

  • Cheers. Goes well too!

  • looks and sounds amazing ! well done

  • I would like to know where you got your handle bars thanks

  • The tank is an excellent replacement idea. I like it given the fact you can't find a good used one for sure. I had a GS1000 and it was stolen, wanted another ever since.

  • need to know what was used to make your oil cooler I have a 1980 GS1000 and would like to do what you have done

  • Sorry mate, but that tank is wrong for a '78..
