This video is one in a series of videos from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project, explaining TCGA's approach to determining the important genomic changes that lead to cancer. TCGA researchers, Drs. Joe Gray, Neil Hayes, Doug Levine, Lynda Chin and Marsten Linehan, explains how genomics has changed the direction of cancer research with the understanding that even cancers from the same anatomical site such as breast cancer are often genomically different and that knowing the genomic defect in an individual's cancer can help doctors tailor or personalize their treatment based on this information. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) is a comprehensive and coordinated effort supported by the National Cancer Institute and the National Human Genome Research Institute to accelerate our understanding of the genetics of cancer using innovative genome analysis technologies.
