Darwin Song Project Concert
Shrewsbury, March 19th 2009

We'll Hunt Him Down
written by Jez Lowe
performed by Jez Lowe, Chris Wood, Mark Erelli

In March 2009 eight folk singer/songwriters gathered together for a week long songwriting residential in rural Shropshire to create songs that had a relevance and resonance with Charles Darwin.

The eight artists were Chris Wood, Karine Polwart, Stu Hanna, Rachael McShane, Krista Detor, Emily Smith, Mark Erelli and Jez Lowe.

The whole concert was recorded for an upcoming CD release (July 2009), and the 8 musicians will reconvene at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August, to once again perform the 19 songs that were written during the week.

Details on the CD release can be found at

  • @mutantleader This song is not about how evolution is a lie. It is just the opposite - an ironic statement reflecting the absurdity of fundamentalist beliefs!

  • @mutantleader When did you loose your sense of irony?

  • Oh my! A folk song about how evolution is a lie. Doesn't even have facts straight... Chimpanzee? Evolution doesn't claim humans are evolved from chimpanzees.

    Cute fundamentalist anthem.

  • I am a Christian and, shock, horror, a Darwinian as well!

And I am grateful for Darwin's gifts to theology, which among other things have encouraged a more sophisticated reading of Scripture and a less overly sentimental view of evil in nature. I don't want to hunt him down, although undoubtedly some fundies do!

Would advise anyone to read Michael Ruse's exceptional book 'Can a Darwinian be a Christian'.

  • Very amusing, although I fear it could become a genuine anthem for Christian fundamentalists who are irony-impaired (Which is probably all of them.)

  • pisss funnee

  • Very awesome. I expected more views since the RDF linked to this project.

  • Fantastic!! X
