Throughout the chaos of World War II, the world's superpowers were engaged in building devastating weapons that can cripple nations. With the Nazis exploring the uranium bomb and experimenting using human genetics, the Allies were under the gun to come up having their own secret military weapon. The result was Operation Rebirth, a super-soldier program that metamorphosed sickly army reject Steve Rogers into a genetically perfect soldier - the world's most articulate weapon of mass destruction.
Marvel's version of World War II is the background for this summer's Captain America movie and the companion video game from Sega. Like the film, the game will detail Captain America's tour of duty in the war. However, with the movie taking on Cap's origin, the game is free to complete some gaps on the hero's formative war years. Television and comic writer Christos Gage (Avengers: The Initiative, Civil War: House of M, and Avengers Academy) will help with the story, which pits Cap versus foes like the scientist Arnim Zola.

Everybody knows that Captain America's shield is his signature tool. He can use it to stop incoming gunfire, but it is far more impressive to direct those bullets ricocheting back at his enemies like a Jedi master or cast the shield into a group of foes and watch it bounce about like an air hockey disc before coming back to his arm. Sega says that the shield comes in handy in some of the game's Prince of Persia-style platforming sequences, but its functionality remains to be seen in action.

Captain America's peak body-build makes him a distinguished opponent in battle. He jumps over enemies to deliver a flurry of kidney-crushing punches from behind, and grabs foes before slamming them to the ground with more force than a WWE superstar. As Cap unleashes his arsenal of strikes, counters and grabs, he fills
up a Crippling Strike meter. When full, this meter allows him to execute special takedowns together with some sexy slow-motion camera tricks.

Captain America does not have any special eye powers in the comics, but the game's Tactical Vision mode spotlights interactive objects, objectives, and other points of interest within the surroundings. It sounds more like Batman's detective mode from Arkham Asylum, but hopefully Sega finds something to incorporate this power into the fiction in a way that won't come across as contrived.
