I had two Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruisers with these large diesel-engines during the 80's. What a sound and what a nice drive. In these days fuel prices and road taxes in our country make these cars much too expensive, but hearing that sound, wooooow.....

There is no beating the good old crackle of old diesels. Its a shame new ones are so quiet.

In 1995 when I used to sell 2500 GMC pickups. This engine has quite LOUD rattle in person. Its too bad GM got cheap as usual and just increased the bore to increase CID and HP. It would have sounded better and had more torque if the stroke was increased.

@mpwelk Or reliablity, ask any troop. They break down more than they run, the 6.5 diesels are pretty much boat anchors. The military needs to either sign a contract with cummins, MTU Detroit, or Isuzu to put better engines that are more reliable for our troops in the hummers. Why they are still using these pieces of junk that were outdated in STANDARD gm pickups by Isuzu made v8 turbo diesels I do not understand.

I love how powerful the new diesels are but they just dont sound badass like the old ones. The old ones just sound like trucks.
