You can't use plumbers solder in this type of soldering - messy, wrong temp., metal match, etc.. Half oz. of silver solder runs about 18.00 and will last you YEARS. I talk about cost effective soldering setups on my website. The idea behind using hard solders such as silver and gold, is to hide the solder and to create a strong, non-toxic join. Old plumber's solder can contain lead. Many more reasons. You can use soft solder. Not very pretty, though. Good Luck. Nancy

Hi Dawn, Great idea. Will work on it. Thanks for the suggestion. Nancy

FYI polishing compounds are grease based, not wax based. That's why hot soapy water removes it :)

Funny how we carry around mis-information. I was TAUGHT that it was wax based. Thanks for pointing out the error of my thinking. I checked out the MSDS on red rouge and voilá, there it was: Tallow and triglicerides! I'll make a note in the information section of the video. Thanks again, Nancy

please do more videos. like eyelet rivets for the poor or starters.kinds of solder , and is their a cheaper kind to use. i just started so i'm using copper and bronze. thought i could use the same solder for plummers?

If you want cheap rivets, buy copper tubing, cut to size and rivet. Eyelets cost way more. I'm doing a vid on riveting soon. There are no starter kinds of solder. Jewelry creation can be done on the cheap - you have to be very resourceful and creative. I put together my first studio for about 100.00. Somethings you can't skip on like silver solder and a decent torch - you'll use it forever. Hope new vids. will help. N
