An early summer thunderstorm this morning is bringing very frequent and intense lightning strikes to Branson, Missouri. The popular tourist spot has been blanketed by numerous severe weather warnings from the National Weather Service since 1am when the storms began to pound the area. So far over 2 inches of rain has fallen at my home weather station since midnight. More thunderstorms, some possibly severe, are expected today throughout the Missouri Ozarks.
This video shows how frequently lightning struck very close to my location. It also shows lightning striking a radio tower - that part is played back in slow motion. Notice how the tower's beacon lights go out after the direct hit. The latter part of the video shows how the lightning flashes were continuous for several minutes.

  • For DeerDance990: It's a radio tower used for law enforcement, fire/EMT and Cable TV reception of over-the-air signals about 30 miles away. It's about 350 feet high, and it gets hit all the time!

  • nice thunder!

  • what is that thing with the red lights on it???

  • 2 or 3 times a year here in central illinois we get nonstop lightning for an hour or so that lights up the sky and ground every time but i have never ever experienced thunder that powerful and frequent.. this movie kicks ass.

  • It's been quite a while since I've seen a storm this powerful. Very nice footage!

  • Beautiful, just beautiful captures! Those thunder crashes really excited me in the first few minutes of the video - makes me can't wait for Spring-Summer to return.

    Thanks for posting this. 5/5

  • Only shit, Last summer I experience intense thunder that loud in Nebraska. At first I was in the corn fields looking at the CG or Cloud to Ground strikes. When the storm got close I ran all the way home

  • why is 2/3 of the rest of the video without sound?

  • Nice. That reminds me of Saskatchewan storms. Here is one of them: video ID "v=VXP4bfOAXV4"

  • This just scared me shitless.
