Yes, the crosshairs were in bad taste. But there's no comparison to the intense vitriol coming from the right-wing. None. The 5-second barely noticeable crosshairs in this ad would only compare to Palin, Limbaugh, etc. if the voiceover would've said something like, "P.S. He's a baby-killer! Time to reload! Hayworth is going down! Take your country back!"
And certainly, if Mitchell was WELL-KNOWN for shooting things, as Palin is, it very well could've created more of a stir.

It is clearly NOT a rifle scope but a telescope hence the words "Focus" as opposed to "don't retreat, reload" Or "Water the tree of liberty with BLOOD!"

So it's worse to put crosshairs on a district map than it is to actually put crosshairs ON THE PEOPLE IN A TV AD? I mean, you don't see them as the same level of horrible?

These images aren't dangerous to anyone. Insane people will find justification wherever they want to, and an ad will not push a murderer 'over the edge'. It's not even worth discussing such a silly argument from either side. Harry Mitchell, Sarah Palin, Jodie Foster, it's all a silly argument: crazy people are responsible for the own actions, they are not controlled by others.
