That's a great idea. It sucks being laid off, but you're looking at it positively. Taking advantage of the time would be good for you. :)

I ended up looving being laid-off even though I really enjoyed my job.  I hope it all works out for you too!!

Sorry to hear the news. You should phrase it as "my contract wasn't renewed" in future job applications. I had to do that a few years back. It's essentially the same as being laid off, but it sounds better, and sounds certainly better than saying you were fired.
