Actually, I thought the 'bland' backround added a certain message to the video.

Most folks are on 'automatic pilot' (ala Gurdjieff) most of the time and that's representationally pretty much what they see of what's going on around them.

The message seems clear enough to me. Either live in a mundane, 'grayed out world of experience', or 'get your colors on' and fly!

I'm quite sure they did not include the textures because that would be a waste of time.

Animating and texturing everything takes time, you know. Pre-rendered stuff have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the hardware.
