EGP is considered as one of the most prestigious choral competition in the world.

EGP is open only to the grand prize winners of the six member European choral competitions in the previous year. (Arezzo, Debrecen, Gorizia, Tolosa, Tours & Varna)

This also means that, unlike other choral competitions, no choir may directly apply or audition in order to join the EGP.

The EGP winner is not allowed to compete in any international choral competition, member of the EGP Association, for 2yrs.

But soon it will be night.
I climbed toward paradise with no thought of looking back.
I passed through a small opening
And finally saw heaven and the supreme light.
And beheld once again the stars.

What an awesome, other-worldly performance! Did the audience ever applaud or were they just too stunned to do so :D Thank you, MADZ, for your artistry and the honor you give to our country!

applause in between songs is prohibited in this competition, perhaps to prevent judges from factoring in audience impact in their computations, and to prevent possible heckling to distract the choir from starting the next song. there's a time limit for each choir to finish all the songs.

I figured as much (that applauding is prohibited) given the "seriousness" of the competition, and that bit about "preventing judges from factoring in audience impact" must be true too. This piece is around 8 minutes long; is that the average allowed length?

I listen to this piece again and again and again :D The soaring soprano parts in the transition are simply DIVINE. Heaven must be like this :))

As far as i know, all choirs will be given a maximum time of say, 20minutes so, it's up to them how many they'll sing. but i'll surmise that MADZ purposely selects certain songs to please the audience, others to please the judges' ears (technically demanding, like in this case a double choir but they are just half or of lesser size than a standard choir), and showcase their range (from fast or short songs to those with a different rythm). Other competitions require an obligatory piece.
