Recorded on May 20, 2007
in "L'Onde", Velizy-Villacoublay cultural center (78, France)
J-Luc Fillon : oboe, english horn
Michel Godard : serpent, tuba

Jarrod Cagwin : oriental percussions
Jean-Luc Oboman FILLON created with this trio a previously unknown orchestral colouring, all sensuality and pulsation. The trio OBOA, an unorthodox assembly of oboe, tambourine and piano, offers a really new approach for jazz trios. The first two albums of this trio, Oboa and Flea Market, illustrate in a wonderful way jazz with Mediterranean influences. Today, the nomad jazz of Oborigins invites us on a trip with a hint of the orient, on a stroll beyond time.
It's a shame the snake thing (can't remember what it's called) isn't very good pitchwise :/

it's amazing that not many people have no idea that the Serpent even exists! I've heard about it, but didn't realize it had sound similar to the tuba. I love the fact that you apply the oboe and English horn to jazz music, not to mention the oriental percussions. I'll never think of Jazz the same ever again.
I've heard of oboes being used in Jazz, and it's got me interested into wanting to see if I can get my hands on an oboe some day. :-)
