Underground library in Stavanger

Welcome to Sølvberget, a building located in the centre of Stavanger, consisting of four different sections of a library (children/youth section, culture section, fact section and music/film section), two cafés, two kiosks and a theatre.

This video here shows a larger, less known part of the library, where we stock very old books and paper, as well as old records and books we have too many copies of sectioned in the public libraries. This room is located two storeys below ground (the elevator so nicely informs you that it is the "second under-floor" as you arrive), and though unknown to the majority of the public, it is fully available for anyone to see if they ask nicely.

I ventured here one morning, intending to talk as I did so, but it was early morning and my voice refused to cooperate. Either that or I'm shy in front of the camera. What you'll see is the amount of books, the age of some books and the awesome rolling bookshelves which I wish to obtain one day in the future. Maybe.

It's probably not amazing in comparison to other libraries out there, but so far it's the biggest thing I've come across in real life. I love working here.

Sadly, this room will not last for long. It will be cleared out, either selling the books to anyone who wish to buy them, or sending them to a bigger library (the latter is most likely concerning the older books). Why? Because the people are convinced that we need another theatre room. As if we didn't have enough as it is. There's plenty of space. But no. So I thought, before it goes, I should film it.
