Actually, both endings are flawed. If the movie had kept the squid, half the audience would've been like WTF!? But, since they changed it, it creates a major plot hole: Why do they stop fighting if Dr. Manhattan (who they blame instead of aliens in the movie) is in a flippin' other galaxy?

Anyway, I actually liked the new Watchmen ending a lot more, because, quite simply, it makes more sense. When I read the original comic for the first time, a small part of me thought: "Wow...aliens...really?" I just thought that whole subplot was a little superfluous, and the new ending is a lot more concise and to-the-point.

@zotrablue Even within the storyline, the squid would've seemed ridiculous and it can't do anyone any harm! It's mysteriously dead by the time all those people have been killed. Just to let you know, I can argue about Watchmen for hours. :P

@zotrablue Fair enough Doctor Manhattan was made well, but that's 'cos they used motion capture. There is NOTHING on this planet that could've been big enough to motion capture that squid. Plus, it's not REALLY that much of a change. I think even Alan Moore himself can agree that the principle has not changed. In Watchmen, the people of the world have seen Doctor Manhattan, therefore know he exists and could have done this.

@metaller8 pretty much every other movie had a cgi squid ( not literaly every but still they did )-----HELL BOY 2 had a squid . i woulda been alot happyer with the squid.

Nice one, I think that Zack Snyder had the right idea tweaking the end. Imagine trying to CGI that squid? It would never look real enough.

I've got watchmen book that shows the original comic book illustrator's recreation of the new watchmen film's ending. I put the movie's audio over the illustrations to create the new ending in comic book form.
