Tying the Olive Sedgehog Bumble by Davie McPhail this is a bob fly rather than a dry, works best on a cast of 3 flies with this being on the top dropper..If You wish to fish this fly more as a dry then I would use a lighter hook like the Kamazan B160 or my favourite the Fulling Mill Super Grub..

  • Hi Davie,

Great video as always. Would you consider doing this fly using the method you demonstrated on the Fiery Brown Hopper for the deer hair, or is this the best way?

    Many thank!

  • Hi GreyBuzzer,

You could tye this pattern in the same style as the fiery brown hopper, but in the bigger sizes you may have to tye in a couple of bunches of deer hair, the first being longer than the second so that when you pull back the deer hair it will reach the back of the fly and form a nice shape.. Let me know how you get on?

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

Do you just tie in Jay feathers the same as the guinie Fowl?

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hi David,

Yes just tye in the blue jay just as I did with the guinea fowl...

    All the best Davie

  • brining the rib through like the ace on spades

  • I've fished using the original sedgehog pattern as described below last season, it was pure entertainment and a cracking fly. I had some great fish on them, I'm interested to see your variant, great video's too....I shall be nipping back and forth from time to time. Thanks for posting them, great to see! Rob.

  • Thanks, Davie for these instructions and great, well done videos and flies. Taut lines, buddy!

  • I loved this pattern as soon as I saw it. I changed the colours to adapt it to our sedges in western Canada. Made my floss and tippet green to imitate an egg sac. I am looking forward to using it next year. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Hello Davie. That is a very super looking fly. Hope to see more from you. Cheers!!!
