Yesterday, while Mississauga Council went into their secret meeting behind closed doors (in-camera) I had just settled in to wait for their return. As usual, I camped inside Council Chambers with MIssissauga Corporate Security guards and a Pelco PTZ for company. Yep, just me.
And then the fire alarm went off!
At 11:44 (videotaped my watch) I had to up and leave the Council Chambers. At the time, I thought Terrific! Ill get a chance to videotape our Missy Fire Department skidding up to Mississauga City Hall!. Fact is, I videotaped the whole thing, from leaving the building, the fire trucks to getting back inside Council.
Ironic.
Now I know that Mississaugas FinestKind Fire Chief Garry W. Morden likely died around the time that two Missy fire trucks were parked outside Mississauga City Hall. The Mississauga News reported, "October 22, 2008 04:36 PM - Mississauga Fire Chief Garry Morden has died. Morden lost his long battle with cancer this afternoon and passed away in hospital, fire officials said. He was 56."
Irony can also be extremely sad. Heres the biggest irony of all. I remember what Peel Regional Police Chief Mike Metcalf said as he gave tribute to his colleague and friend back on September 24, 2008.
Garry, personally, on behalf of all the men and women of Peel Regional Police, I wish you well. And Ill be standing right beside everybody, and you, at the ground-breaking.
No he wont.
Im so glad that Mississauga Council got it together in time for Fire Chief Morden to see the plans for the new state-of-the-art training centre that is named in his honour. And so glad that the Mayor and Councillors all had their oppotunity to thank Mississaugas dedicated Fire Chief and say their good-byes.

HI funstuffaweek,
No, I'm not the Mayor.
If I was there'd be about three dozen City of Mississauga employees who'd be given their walking papers and then drop-kicked off the Clock Tower.
Thank for asking...
