Thanks MrHC, Yes, with a few new folks all in a hurry to get in the water, we missed this mast lift assist step . With this HOBIE 16, I do have a ''Mast Stepper", but did not take the extra time to assemble . This little video was to demonstrate how you could "alone" Single-Handed step a HOBIE 16 mast . Same procedure with my HOBIE 18SX mast. Any additional observatons will be helpful too. Come on over and bring your HOBIE. Thanks again.

Hi Martin, Using a Trap Cable, have a plastic hook on the shock cord that runs under the trampoline. Disconnect the shock cord and tie a line onto the thimble. Run this line through the trailer forward Mast Support (use a U-Bolt). Run this line back to the trampoline area. Step the mast, then pull this line until it is Tight. Some folks cleat it through the Jib Cleat. Tie this line off around the mast or forward crossbar (while holding up the mast). Once tied, then go cleat the halyard.

How did you keep the mast up while the set the forestay? Did you use the Jib Halyard?

Hey there Girard, If you are having difficulty in connecting the HOBIE 16 forestay, then there may be something wrong. First, determine the three W's (Wind, Water [waves], and Weight on board) to determine this setting for the Mast Rake. Over the years, people sailing a HOBIE 16 have pitch poled a lot, so Hobie began to shorthen shrouds for more Mast Rake (nose up). Check the length of all cables. The Jib halyard sets the tension for mast rigging.

We just bought a Hobie 16 and are trying to figure out how to put up the mast. Are we supposed to attach the stay adjuster wires to the front or middle (back) anchor pins?
