In my electronics class, my instructor allowed me to burn out this crappy 300 ohm 1/4W resistor. Smoking!It would have set off the fire alarm and prompted an evacuation of the college if it smoked even more. Heh.

try a higher watt value and see if it catches on fire....lol i used a 16 ohm 1/8th watt resistor with the highest setting on my source and it was putting out 25 volts into that tiny thing....it immediatly caught on fire lol so much fun

My resistor burned really, with flammes. But yours just smoked a little bit. Try carbon based resistors the next time :-)
