In just a few days she is now able to eat on her own. I still have to cut up her food but she will take it without being force fed. Once her leg is healed enough she will go out with Blizzard untill this next spring when she will be released
Just an FYI-Don't go up to an injured hawk (or any wild raptor) and expect to touch it or pick it up.Most cases it will go into attack/defense position (roll on it's back and expose talons) If you see this, stay away ! Those feet are extremely fast and needle sharp ! If an Owl nabs you it will hurt like hell and you're going to get bloody -If a Hawk grabs you , you will not get it to let go(think vice grip)Honest to God, you will never forget being groped by a Hawk!

  • How is she?

  • @MPSecare She is doing better and was transferred to our other facility untill spring/summer

  • I don't know about the Philippines , but they are not legal to own here. I think you are right , just a little too warm and humid for these guys in your area

  • I've seen vids where people have successfully wrapped towels around raptors so they become docile as soon as their eyes are covered. Then their legs are restrained so they can't use their talons.

They also don't need to eat as much in captivity because they don't need to use as much energy to stay warm, right?

  • @Mazryonh All true-this little one was too weak to fight and didn't need to be wrapped..the hawk however was a different story

  • @MrRelhed Yes, I hope you continue to post vids of this Snowy Owl as the situation develops. Don't forget to get some nice footage if you ever rescue a Barred Owl or Great Grey Owl (I'd like to see how docile they are by comparison when rescued).

  • @Mazryonh We should be seeing Great Horned Owls any time (it's the season for them) I would love to see aGreat Grey ! We had a young Barred not too long ago - was all feet ! She didn't make it though. I will definately continue with updates
